What is the Moving Image Awards?

The Moving Image Awards, designed in partnership with the British Film Institute, recognises and rewards the UK's most talented young film-makers. Every year, students undertaking WJEC qualifications in Film and Media are invited to submit their work for consideration by our panel of judges.

What are the categories?

There are 6 categories in all:

Best short film logo

BEST SHORT FILM

Best film extract logo

BEST FILM extract

Best TV extract logo

BEST TV EXTRACT

Best music video logo

BEST music video

Best entry: 16 or under logo

best entry: 16 or under

Best entry: 16 or under logo

best screenplay

(a new category introduced for 2017)

Who can enter?

The competition is open to all students aged 14-19 who are taking WJEC Film or Media Studies qualifications.

 

How long should my film be and in what format?

Each submission should be between 2 and 5 minutes and submitted via DVD (preferably in .MOV or .MP4 format)

 

Can we enter as a group?

Yes, we accept individual and group entries. The prize amount however, will remain the same.

 

When is the closing date for entries?

The closing date for entries is available under the 'Enter' section of the website.

 

How are entries judged?

Our judging panel is made up of teachers, examiners and film experts, who review each entry, shortlist and choose a winner for each category.

 

What are the prizes?

Each winning entry receives a trophy, certificate and a cash prize.

 

When are the winners announced?

The shortlist is announced in the autumn term. Each shortlist is invited to the awards ceremony where the winner for each category, and the overall winner is announced.

 

Where is it held?

The awards ceremony is held at the British Film Institute, Southbank in London. The awards ceremony is hosted by the BFI and features guest discussions throughout.

 

When is it held?

The date of the awards ceremony is confirmed once the shortlist has been finalised.

 

Who can attend the ceremony?

All shortlisted entries are invited to the ceremony. Centres wishing to attend should email hannah.macalaulay@wjec.co.uk to request attendance.

 

Who has won in the past?

Previous shortlisted entries and winners are available to view under the 'Awards' section of the website.
